LibreOffice 3.3.3 Now Available

The current production release of LibreOffice, regarded as suitable for corporate deployment, has been updated. LibreOffice 3.3.3 fixes several bugs and, according to the developers, "improves the security of the suite". The Document Foundation says, "users of LibreOffice 3.3.2 are invited to update their software." The release notes do not refer to any specific vulnerabilities being fixed.

The developers do note that all the security fixes from OpenOffice.org 3.3.0 are incorporated in this release and suggest that the release may have more fixes than that as "a side effect of the code cleanups", pointing to a Michael Meeks blog entry from April on the subject.

The Document Foundation plans to maintain the 3.3 branch of LibreOffice till the end of the year to allow users to smoothly migrate to LibreOffice 3.4. Currently, LibreOffice 3.4.0 is available as an "early adopter/power user" release and is not blessed for production use by the developers.

Details about this release can be found in a post on the Document Foundation Blog and in the release notes. LibreOffice 3.3.3 is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux from the project's web site.

LibreOffice forked from the OpenOffice.org office suite following Oracle'sacquisition of Sun Microsystems, the original copyright holders of the name and main sponsors of the project. Oracle has since donated the OpenOffice.org code to the Apache Foundation. LibreOffice source code is licensed under the LGPL version 3.
