These days, people work across a variety of different platforms: computers, mobile phones and tablets. Ensuring the latest version of your data travels with you can be tricky if you rely on manually copying it between devices, which is why so many of today’s cloud-based backup tools also work by synchronising data between supported devices.

Online backup solutions are ten-a-penny these days, which is why Bitdefender’s Safebox feels like it’s a little late to the party. It works on Windows and Android, with iPad and iPhone support coming shortly, and offers 2GB free online storage space, with paid-for solutions offering up to 60GB of online storage a year.

It’s simple enough to use: install the free app, sign up for a free account, log in and then start selecting which files you want to back up. Once selected, initial copies are uploaded to your secure online account – encrypted of course – ready for synchronising to other computers and devices (just sign in with the same account details, then choose what to sync), accessing via a web browser (log in at https://my.bitdefender.com/en_us/safebox), or sharing securely with selected others, such as family and friends.

It’s all very efficient – changes to files are immediately uploaded to the server, and you can easily restore previous versions of files simply by right-clicking the file in Windows itself. The user interface is simple and uncluttered and it does what it says on the tin.

Unfortunately, so do so many other online backup services, and there’s nothing here to make Bitdefender Safebox stand out from the crowd. Most other services offer the same sync, share and backup tools, encrypt your data, work across multiple platforms (including Mac) and offer free accounts – in the case of AVG LiveKive and SugarSync, you get 5GB, while the forthcoming Windows 8 will have Windows Live SkyDrive built right into the interface, which currently offers up to 25GB free storage, admittedly most of which is currently only accessible through your web browser.

What Safebox does have going for it is simplicity, but it’s not enough on its own to make it the must-have cloud backup product, particularly if you’re already signed up with someone else. via downloadcrew

Avast Warns WordPress flaw

Avast Warns WordPress flaw

Security firm Avast is advising webmasters to scan sites and update log-in credentials following the discovery of a malware attack targeting the WordPress publishing platform.

The attack exploits a vulnerability in an image plug-in for WordPress, allowing an attacker to access a site and use the platform to distribute malware payloads and harvest FTP log-in credentials for users and administrators.

Jan Sirmer, senior virus lab researcher at Avast, said that a flaw in the TimThumb image plug-in allows the attackers to infect sites running WordPress with a malicious PHP file.

The attack is believed to be conducted through a commercially available toolkit called BlackHole, and redirect users to sites that attempt to install malware.

Sirmer warned that in some cases the attack had gone unnoticed by administrators because the sites were hosted by third-party service providers.

Avast urged administrators to scan their own systems, and to visit their sites with PCs running anti-virus software to detect possible infections on hosted pages.

"WordPress is not immune to exploitation, a fact driven by its overall popularity and the wide number of available versions," Sirmer said.

"Stronger log-in and password keys, alone or together with two-factor authentication, are options that system administrators should use when working with third-party IT managers." via paketstromsecurity

SoftwareCrew : Last month Symantec gave us a first look at their Internet Security 2012 technologies, and now it’s BitDefender’s turn, as today it’s released the first public beta of the company’s extremely comprehensive Total Security 2012.

And we do mean comprehensive. So the lengthy feature list doesn’t only include the standard modules: antivirus, antiphishing, antispam, a firewall, and so on. You also get file encryption, a secure file shredder, chat encryption, parental controls, an online backup tool, file syncing, vulnerability detection, privacy options, a tune-up tool to clean up redundant files and Registry keys, and a Remote Management tool that will help you manage these features across your entire network.

The suite includes plenty of new features, too. Integrated cloud services ensures a faster response to new outbreaks, for instance. The Scan Dispatcher automatically checks your system for threats when it’s idle, minimising any impact on other applications. And if Total Security 2012 finds a deeply-embedded threat which it can’t remove, then it can reboot your PC to Rescue Mode, a trusted Linux-based environment that makes it much easier to detect and clean up any malware.

Autopilot is another interesting addition, which allows Total Security 2012 to make any security-related decisions on your behalf: perfect for novice users, or anyone else who just doesn’t want to be hassled with pop-ups or alerts. (Though if you would rather keep control of what’s happening on your own PC, don’t worry, this is turned off by default.)

Of course this is only a first beta, and so there are a few inevitable issues.

We found Total Security 2012′s RAM use was occasionally high, for instance, at over 200MB, even when running in the background. But that’s to be expected with beta code, and normally it was under 35MB.

We also noticed that some applications seemed noticeably slower after installing the package. And we were unable to test any of the browser protection features, as they didn’t appear on our test PC at all.

Total Security 2012 isn’t yet ready to offer long-term protection for your PCs, then, but it is still an interesting package, packed with features, and well worth a look if you’re interested to see what BitDefender will be doing next. The beta download is available now.

Setelah contes hacking tahungan berakhir dan hampir smua web browser melakukan update dan merilis versi terbaru meraka, sebuah lembaga mengadakan tes untuk mengetahui kelebihan dan kekurangan brwoser tersebut, mulai dari loading, javascript, penggunanaan memory, dan lain sebagainya,

Inilah beberapa tes yang  dilakukan:

Cold Boot Up-Pemenang Opera 11

Internet Explorer tetap tidak mengherankan bahwa tidak terlalu cepat dari pintu gerbang ,walaupun memiliki beberapa elemen yang dimasukkan ke Windows. Anda mungkin dicatat bahwa kami tidak termasuk "memulai pemanasan" hasil kali ini, ketika melihathasil awal, kami menyadari bahwa semua browser start up cukup cepat, bahwa untuk menilai pemenang akan memerlukan ketentuan yangdekat,  dankecepatan dalam timer-jari.

DOM / CSS-Pemenang: Opera 11

Ini kurang dikenal dan mencolok dari kecakapan JavaScript, namun gaya dan penanganan CSS semakin penting, mengingat terus berkembangnya webapps yang smakin interaktif. Opera menarik di depan kedua pohon rilis Chrome di sini, dengan Firefox 4 tidak jauh di belakang, dan IE 9 masih tertinggal diblakang.

Memori Use (No Ekstensi)-Pemenang: Chrome Dev dan Opera 11

Chrome versi Dev jelas tidak mengambil terlalu bnyak memory untuk digunakan, dan begitu juga Opera. Mereka menggunakan memori setidaknya saat baru mulai, dan setelah dimuat beban sembilan tab yang sama diuji di atas. 

Memori Use (With 5 Ekstensi)-Pemenang: Opera 11 & Firefox 4

Chrome dan Opera tentu lebih ringan tanpa menggunakan extensi tapi  jika menggunakan extensi Firefox lebih baik. Dengan ini, Firefox sebenarnya yang terbaik dari semua browser dengan lima ekstensi dan sembilan tab, yang tentunya membuat layak. Opera 11 tetap menjadi berat dengan memori dalam semua kasus, dan menang ketika  ekstensi dipasang akan menjdi ringan pada saat startup. 

Skor keseluruhan 

Setiap browser memiliki value proposition yang unik untuk setiap pengguna, dan mungkin Anda membutuhkan fitur tertentu lebih daripada yang lain. Bagaimana jika Browser Anda peringkat masing-masing dalam beberapa kategori utama, pertama dari kelima, dan sebagainya, kemudian dibagi jumlah pertunjukan mereka dengan total kemungkinan?

Fotur baru deperkenalkan, "AutoSandbox", sebuah fitur yang secara otomatis mencari dan mengeksekusi file yang mencurigakan dalam lingkungan virtual aman. ARTAV, Antivirus Lokal Buatan Anak SMP

Artav, antivirus buatan seorang anak SMP asal Bandung bernama Arrival Dwi Sentosa ternyata belum dipatenkan. Masalah klise kembali jadi penghadang, yakni soal ketidaktahuan dan minimnya biaya.

"Saya tidak tahu bagaimana mengurus paten. Sayang kalau karyanya malah dibajak," ujar Herman Suherman, ayah Arrival saat ditemui detikINET di kediamannya di Gang Adiwinata No 9, Bojongsoang, Kabupaten Bandung.

Artav merupakan antivirus berbasis visual basic. Walau diciptakan oleh bocah umur belasan tahun, tapi antivirus ini cukup tangguh membasmi deretan virus terbaru. Bahkan antivirus ini support 100 persen unicode system.

Selain itu, fitur-fitur yang ada dalam antivirus besutan siswa kelas 2 SMP Negeri 48 Bandung ini juga cukup variatif. Kama Sutra Virus - Search Online May Be Infectious

PC pengguna yang mencari posisi seks Kama Sutra dan foto online sedangdiperingatkan untuk menghindari download yang dapat menginfeksi komputer pribadi mereka dengan virus Kama Sutra.
